About Our Church
We are a vibrant Syro-Malabar Catholic community in full communion with Rome, rooted in faith, tradition, and service. Our parish is a spiritual home for families in Edmonton and surrounding areas, preserving the rich liturgical, cultural, and moral heritage of the Syro-Malabar Church while passing it on to future generations.
Our Story
The dream of establishing a Syro-Malabar Catholic community in Edmonton became a reality on October 7, 2012, when St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Catholic Mission was officially inaugurated. What began as a small group of faithful gathering for prayer and Malayalam Holy Qurbana gradually grew into a strong and thriving parish community.
Over the years, with the dedication of priests, parish leaders, and families, the mission grew steadily. In 2017, the parish achieved another major milestone by acquiring its own church property, creating a permanent spiritual home for the Syro-Malabar faithful in Edmonton. The new church was solemnly consecrated on July 29, 2017.

Our parish continues to grow as a center of worship, fellowship, and service for the Syro-Malabar faithful in Alberta.
A Growing Parish Community

From a small gathering of families, our parish has grown into a large and active community. Today, the church serves hundreds of families and supports a flourishing Sunday School, vibrant parish ministries, community events, feast celebrations, and family units.
We are blessed to witness the faith formation of the next generation through catechism, youth activities, and parish programs that strengthen both spiritual and community life.
Sunday School and Faith Formation
Faith formation has always been central to our parish life. What began with a small number of children has now grown into a strong catechetical program serving hundreds of students. With the support of dedicated teachers and volunteers, we continue to guide children and youth in faith, values, and the traditions of the Syro-Malabar Church.
Milestones in Our Journey
Some important milestones in our parish history include:
2012 – Official inauguration of St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Catholic Mission in Edmonton
2013 – Registration as a Corporate Religious Society
2014 – Appointment of a full-time pastor and move to St. Edmond’s Church
2017 – Purchase of our own church property and church consecration
2024 – Opening of St. Sebastian’s Qurbana Centre to serve the growing community
2024 – Hosting the Eparchy of Mississauga Decennial Celebration and Eucharistic Year Inauguration
2024 – Celebration of the parish's 10th anniversary
