CATECHISM

THE CATHOLIC CONGRESS
The Catholic Congress unit at St. Alphonsa Forane Church in Edmonton is a vibrant lay organization dedicated to the spiritual, social, and cultural growth of the Syro-Malabar community. Operating under the guidance of the parish and the Eparchy of Mississauga, the Congress empowers members to live out their faith actively in Canadian society. It serves as a unified voice for the laity, defending community rights while fostering leadership and civic engagement among parishioners aged 18 and older. Through various parish-led initiatives, the movement strengthens communal bonds and inspires meaningful service.
MATHRUVEDI
Mathruvedi at St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Catholic Forane Church in Edmonton is a vibrant, faith-driven ministry dedicated to uniting and empowering the mothers of our parish community. Under the spiritual patronage of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the organization strives to fulfill its motto: "Mother, Protector of Life, and the Light of the Family." Our members play a central role in parish life, actively leading prayer ministries, organizing charitable outreach programs, and coordinating cultural events.
PITHRUVEDI
Pithruvedi at St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Forane Church in Edmonton is a dedicated fellowship that unites and empowers the fathers of our parish community. Operating under the patronage of St. Joseph, the association helps men grow spiritually and fulfill their Christian responsibilities as headers of their families. Members serve as vital pillars of church logistics, actively leading fundraising campaigns, volunteer initiatives, and parish feast celebrations. Through faith-driven service and family solidarity, Pithruvedi plays an indispensable role in preserving our rich traditions for future generations.
KNIGHTS OF COLOMBUS
The Knights of Columbus at St. Alphonsa Syro-Malabar Forane Church in Edmonton is a fraternal service organization that empowers practicing Catholic men to put their faith into action. Guided by the core principles of charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism, members stand together in service to their families, parish, and local community. The brotherhood works closely with church leadership to spearhead charitable outreach programs, sponsor youth initiatives, and provide vital volunteer support for parish events. By fostering personal development and deep spiritual growth, the council helps Catholic men become strong leaders and defenders of their faith.
